A man accused of kidnapping and assaulting a child will stand trial in less than two weeks, prosecutors announced Wednesday.
The Public Prosecution ordered his referral to the High Criminal Court while keeping him in custody. He faces charges of abducting the boy, holding him against his will, and attacking him.
The case came to light on 19 February when the child’s father reported the incident to the Northern Governorate Police.
Prosecutors questioned the father and witnesses, sent the boy for a medical check-up, and reviewed security footage showing the suspect using force to carry out the crime. The man was interrogated and confronted with the findings before prosecutors decided to move ahead with the case.
The trial is set for Sunday, 16 March
