A widespread technical issue has affected television channels, airports and banks worldwide, causing Microsoft‘s Windows computers to shut down unexpectedly, according to a new report by The Telegraph.
Sky News’s breakfast programme was off air Friday morning, replaced by archive footage, the report said, whereas Ryanair’s website advised passengers to arrive at airports three hours early, citing a “third party IT issue, which is outside Ryanair’s control and affect all airlines operating across the network”.
Downdetector, a website monitoring service disruptions, reported sudden increases in problems with various websites, including Microsoft applications, banking sites and airline apps.
Users reported problems in Australia, New Zealand, India and Japan, with the UK expected to face significant impact during Friday’s rush hour, the report said.
The full extent and cause of the outage remain under investigation.
