More than 60% of positive cases are Kuwaitis

The spokesman for Kuwait’s Ministry of Health, Dr Abdullah Al Sanad, revealed that 61 per cent of those infected with COVID-19 throughout the month of January were Kuwaitis.

While the Ministry has held a weekly press conference since the start of the pandemic, due to the rise in COVID-19 cases, Al Sanad announced it will be holding a press conference daily at 7pm (8pm UAE time) to keep the public informed.

On Tuesday, Kuwait recorded 1,002 new COVID-19 cases and six deaths, making it one of the highest number of positive cases and deaths registered in a single day since the start of the pandemic.

Given the steep increase in cases, Kuwait has enforced several new measures from banning non-Kuwaitis from travelling to Kuwait for two weeks to closing down saloons and gyms for a month. In addition, the government is considering enforcing a curfew, if cases continue to rise.
