UAE: Up to Dh250,000 fine for schools violating Covid-19 measures

The Abu Dhabi Department of Education said schools found violating Covid-19 measures can be issued fines ranging from Dh10,000 to Dh250,000.

Repeated non-compliance can lead to schools being forced to shift to distance learning provision, with parents entitled to remove their children from the school and gain fee refunds.

The department has conducted inspections at 221 schools and 119 nurseries.

The department has banned extracurricular activities on school premises, with only light athletic activities allowed outdoors during normal scheduled PE classes and under social distancing rules.

In addition, parents are allowed to enter school premises, provided they show a negative PCR test result taken within 96 hours of entry or show ‘emergency use’ status on their Al Hosn App.

School tours for new and prospective parents may also resume, while class sizes have been increased to a maximum of 30 students with 1.5 metre social distancing and compulsory face masks.

For kindergarten, the class size is capped at 25 students. The limit for younger children remains at a maximum of 10 students.
