New lockdowns, curfews around the world as Covid-19 infections surge

New lockdowns and curfews were imposed around the world from India to Argentina on Saturday, as Covid-19 infections surged and vaccine roll-outs were hampered by shortages and scares over side effects.

In Maharashtra, every weekend from Saturday until the end of April, residents will be confined to their homes unless traveling or shopping for food or medicine.

Argentina entered a night-time curfew on Friday running from midnight to 06:00 am every day until April 30.

France and Germany are also subject to restrictions and commerce have been stymied by several states refusing to go along with the proposals.

Berlin is likely to usher night-time curfews and some school closures in especially hard-hit areas.

Stay-at-home orders were also set to come into force in Bogota, after a third wave of infections.
