The American School of Bahrain’s Elementary Music Show held on 8th June, 2022 showcased the talents of the young students from Grades 1-4.
As students entered the stage, you can see the youngsters excitedly waving at their parents, which was very heart-warming to witness. The parents were all smiles sitting in the audience, cheering, singing, and dancing along.
Part 1, spotlighting students from Grades 1-2 featured a performance based on the book, “We’re Going on a Bear Hunt,” by Michael Rosen. The students chose to be either instrumentalists, playing the xylophones, glockenspiels, and metallophones, or singer-dancers for their performance. They presented 20 minutes of consecutive music and mastered the stage transitions like young professionals.
Part 2 of the show featured the book “Change Sings,” by US National Youth Poet Laureate, Amanda Gorman. Students from Grades 3-4 showcased their talents in singing, rapping, and playing the ukulele and recorders, alongside the ASB Staff Blues Band. Several singers and one violinist were showcased as soloists throughout the performance, as well as the ASB Jr. Singers, the popular choral ensemble founded this year.
The diversity of musical choices presented during the concert, and the enthusiastic performances by the students made it a very memorable show indeed!
In every child, there is music, and ASB places a high value on the performing arts as part of its well-rounded academic program. Research has shown that children who learn music in their early years show higher brain development in the areas associated with language and reasoning. Participating in musical shows and performances builds confidence and social skills.
