Oman: 5% tax on hotel reservations, shop rentals

A 5% VAT has been applied to hotels, tourist complexes, industrial and commercial complexes, and hotel apartments, as VAT comes to force in the country on Friday, April 16.

Residential rentals are excluded, according to the tax authority.

With regard to tax transactions for residential real estate, the first sale of residential real estate is subject to a 5% tax, and is exempt from tax upon resale or when renting the property.
