Oman’s Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) seized over 115,000 violating products in 2024 across various sectors in Oman, according to a report by the Times of Oman.
The most significant category was expired products, with over 41,000 items confiscated, the report said, with Dhofar Governorate accounting for 48 per cent of these cases, the highest among all regions.

The circulation of certain products was also banned, leading to the seizure of more than 16,000 items. Dhofar recorded the highest share at 66 per cent.
In the chewing and smokeless tobacco sector, more than 15,000 products were seized, with Muscat Governorate leading at 43 per cent, the report said.
Over 10,000 clothing and products violating public decency regulations were confiscated, with North Al Sharqiyah topping the list at 52 per cent.
The CPA also banned the circulation of electronic cigarettes and shisha, resulting in more than 7,000 products being seized. Muscat Governorate recorded 99 per cent of these cases.
The total number of seized products in 2024 decreased by 18 per cent compared to 2023. The most significant reductions were recorded in the standards and measurements sector (95 per cent decrease), the chewing and smokeless tobacco sector (48 per cent decrease), and the counterfeit and imitation sector (49 per cent decrease).
The CPA attributed the decline to increased awareness and compliance among suppliers, and affirmed its commitment to strengthening regulatory and inspection efforts to ensure market compliance.
