Oman extends grace period for expats to leave country

The grace period for expat workers to correct their conditions and leave the country permanently has been extended by another three months until March 31, 2021.

The Director General also informed that more than 12,378 people have left Oman under the scheme.

The announcement from the Labour Ministry was in line with the decision of the Supreme Committee to facilitate expatriate workforce who wish to return to their country due to the current pandemic situation. Employees as well as employers are exempt from any fine that may have arisen due to work permit-related issues. This decision was originally effective from November 15 till December 31, 2020.

While many expatriates, mainly from the Indian sub-continent, have left the country under this scheme, there are many who are in the process of doing so.
