Over 50 Expats Arrested for Violating Oman’s Labour Law

More than 50 expats were arrested in the Al Dakhiliyah Governorate on the 3rd and 4th of June 2023 for violating the Labour Law of the Sultanate of Oman, said the Ministry of Labour (MoL).

A statement issued online by the Ministry of Labour said: “The Ministry of Labour, represented by the Office of the Joint Inspection Team at the Directorate General of Labour in Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, conducted an inspection campaign in the Wilayat of Al Hamra and the Wilayat of Bahla during the period June 3-4, 2023.”

“As a result of the campaign, 52 workers were arrested in violation of the provisions of the Labour Law. The legal measures are being taken against them, ” the Ministry added. 

Within a week, more than 250 expatriates were deported from the Sultanate of Oman for violating the Labour Law. A statement issued online by the Ministry of Labour said: “In order to follow up on the expatriate’s workforce and its compliance with the provisions of the Labour Law, the Ministry of Labour represented by the Directorate General of Labour Welfare (the joint inspection team) conducted inspection campaigns in the Governorate of Muscat during the period from May 28 to June 3, 2023. “

“The inspection campaigns resulted in the arrest of 206 workers in violation of the provisions of the Labour Law, including 141 workers who left work. Work is underway to take legal action against them. Also, 263 workers were deported during the same period, ” the Ministry added.
