Dubai Police successfully retrieved a lost bag containing $7,000 and essential travel documents for an Egyptian passenger at Dubai International Airport, resolving the mix-up within 30 minutes.
The passenger, Mounir Said Ibrahim, had mistakenly taken a similar looking bag from a female traveller upon arrival in Dubai.
Realising the error, he rushed to the airport police office in distress, reporting that his suitcase—containing all his belongings, travel documents, and cash—had been swapped. With just an hour before his next flight to China, he feared missing his connection.
Brigadier Hamouda Belsuwaida Al Amri, Director of the General Department of Airport Security, said officers acted immediately, reviewing surveillance footage and retracing the traveler’s steps. They also coordinated with Emirates Airline, which had flown Ibrahim from Cairo. Investigators soon identified the female traveler who had inadvertently taken his bag. Still inside the airport awaiting her relatives, she was unaware of the mix-up until officers approached her, explained the situation, and facilitated the exchange.
Ibrahim retrieved his suitcase in time to board his flight, while the female traveler was also reunited with her belongings.
Dubai Police emphasised that their teams are fully equipped to handle incidents efficiently, ensuring a seamless experience for travelers. “We are committed to upholding the highest standards of safety and security at Dubai airports,” Brigadier Al Amri said.
Both travelers expressed their gratitude for the quick resolution, praising the professionalism and efficiency of Dubai Police, whose rapid response stressed the city’s reputation for world-class security and service.
