Philippines: Coronavirus Cases Rise to 13,777; Deaths at 863

A group of 180 new COVID-19 was reported by the Department of Health on Saturday, bringing the nationwide total to 13,777.

The agency also said 863 in total have died after six more succumbed to the viral disease. Meanwhile, 3,177 others recovered, with 85 additional survivors.

There are currently 9,737 active cases, or persons experiencing the illness, the DOH said. Of the new cases, 114 people or 63 percent are from Metro Manila while 66 patients or 37 percent were scattered in different areas, the department added.

Meanwhile, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported that 18 more overseas Filipinos in 46 countries caught the coronavirus, with the total infected Filipinos abroad now at 2,522. From this, 1,353 people are still undergoing treatment, DFA added.

Some 14 others also recovered, bringing the number of survivors to 878, while the death toll rose to 291 after four more succumbed to the illness, the agency said.

From the total number, 554 cases were verified by the Health Department, the agency noted.
