Buxani, previously the chairman of ITP Cosmos Group, arrived in Dubai in November 1959 when he started his career as an office assistant at the age of 18.
Dr. Ram Buxani, a veteran Indian businessman and prominent figure in Dubai’s expat community, passed away on Sunday at the age of 83.
Buxani died following an incident at his home around 1 AM, ending a remarkable six-decade journey that mirrored Dubai’s own transformation.
Buxani, previously the chairman of ITL Cosmos Group, arrived in Dubai in November 1959 at age 18. He started as an office assistant and became a business leader and community figure.
He came to what was then the Trucial States and built a successful career alongside Dubai’s development.
He held key roles in Indian expatriate organisations, including Founder Chairman of the Overseas Indians Economic Forum and Chairman of the India Club, Dubai. He also served as Chairman of the Indian High School, Dubai, from 2000 to 2004.
In 1983, Buxani received a Shield of Honour from India’s President for his contributions to the Non-Residential Indian community.
He earned a doctorate from Washington International University in 2004 and an honorary Doctor of Letters from D.Y. Patil University in 2015.
At his death, Buxani was involved with organisations like the Al Noor Training Centre for Persons with Disabilities and the Business Leaders Forum. He also worked with the International Chamber of Commerce UAE and various charitable groups.
