Qatar: Finance minister arrested over corruption charges

Qatar Finance Minister Ali Sherif Al Emadi was arrested for questioning over allegations of embezzlement, abuse of power and crimes related to the public sector.

The minister was arrested as per the state attorney general’s order. He is being questioned over allegations of embezzlement, abuse of power and crimes related to the public sector, according to a statement carried by state news agency QNA said on Thursday.

An investigation is underway, QNA added.

Al Emadi has been the minister of finance since 2013. He sits on the board of Qatar’s $300 billion sovereign fund.
