The Public Services Regulatory Authority approved the reduction rates on electricity consumption bills for the residential category (basic account) during the summer months and also announced the fixing of the price of electricity consumption unit segments for 2024 at the same prices in 2023.

According to the authority, this is to alleviate the severity of the rise in electricity bills during the coming months due to the rise in temperatures, which leads to an increase in electrical energy consumption. The Authority directed companies operating in this sector to calculate the reduction rates starting from last May until next August, and it will follow up on the companies’ implementation of the reduction rates in electricity bills during these months.

The reduction rates for the three consumption segments during the month of May came in varying proportions, as consumers in the first category from 0-4000 kilowatts will receive a 15% reduction in the value of the bill, while consumers in the second category from 4001-6000 kilowatts will receive a percentage reduction on their bills amounts to 10% of the bill value, while consumers in the third category for more than 6,001 kilowatts will receive a discount of 5% of the bill value.

During June, July, and August, the discount for the first category from 0-4000 kilowatts will be 20% of the bill’s value. Consumers in the second category, from 4001-6000 kilowatts, will receive a reduction rate of 15% of the bill’s value. The discount for the third category for more than 6001 kilowatts will be 10% of the invoice value.
