Mohammed Albayati, CEO, AJEX shares how innovation and leadership have shaped the company’s customer-centric approach in logistics, emphasizing technological advancements, team empowerment, and fostering a dynamic work environment.
Can you discuss a recent innovation that has made an impact on your operations, the larger industry, or your customers?
From unprecedented transparency and traceability to temperature monitoring and more besides, we’ve embraced these new technology innovations at AJEX to tackle increasingly complex consumer demands. For example, the AJEX Courier Mobile App offers route optimization and real-time communication features, and an AI-driven chatbot to enhance 24X7 customer interactions. By integrating these technologies, we’ve enhanced the speed, efficiency, and transparency of our services.
What were the biggest lessons learned while implementing this innovation?
Technological advancement alone isn’t enough; true innovation requires aligning our team around our vision, customer expectations, and market needs. Not only did we reinvent the AJEX customer experience, but our transformational leadership approach enabled us to promote innovation, empower our talented employees, and ensure a customer-centric experience.
How do you foster a successful work environment?
At AJEX, we believe that fostering a diverse and inclusive work environment is essential for success. We are committed to Saudization and Gender diversity, ensuring we develop local talents and contribute to national workforce goals. Through initiatives such as our Future Leaders program, we actively invest in developing young graduates to create a supportive and dynamic environment, where collaboration and continuous learning are key drivers of success.
What inspired you to enter the logistics industry?
Having worked in manufacturing and trade across multiple sectors, I witnessed first-hand how critical supply chains are to the success of a business. Logistics is the backbone of every industry. Highly complex, it requires navigating many moving parts, tight timelines, and diverse markets. Working in logistics provides the opportunity to be at the forefront of an industry that drives global trade. This dynamic environment, where every decision can make a significant difference, is what drew me to the field.
Can you share a particular moment in your career that significantly influenced your leadership style?
A pivotal moment in my career was when I made the decision to let go of my fears and apprehension to pursue what others thought impossible. It was the decision to be persistent and not give up. In my career that meant making the bold decision to be the best in the market, competing with other more established brands. This has shaped my leadership style in striving for excellence, no matter the obstacles.
In hindsight, is there anything you wish to have done differently in your career or as a leader?
One thing I have learnt with experience is the value of collaboration with established brands or experts in their field, over trying to build everything alone from scratch. Working with the right partners can accelerate growth, foster innovation, and open new opportunities, something I’ve come to appreciate more deeply as a leader.
