Sartorial Chic

An Interview with French model and actress  Aymeline Valade.

What is your relationship with fashion/style?

I like to think that it is a healthy one (smiles). I love experimenting with my own style and I think it is an interesting nonverbal communication tool. What you wear says a lot about you.

What does jewellery represent for you?

I use jewellery for different purposes. The most important reason is to bring a touch of sophistication, as well as greater chic and femininity to whatever “look” I am trying to create, but also to infuse my overall style with a glowing/radiant touch.

What is the first piece of jewellery you received?

My first piece of jewellery was a medallion I was given when I was born.

What is your secret for a great look?

To have a strong piece which sets the mood for the overall look, while keeping the rest “low-profile” so as not to overdo it. It’s all about accessorising with a subtle touch to bring that essential element of light…

You would never leave the house without…

My rings and earrings!

What do you like most about the Ice Cube collection?

Its simplicity. It goes with any look for night- or day-time wear, while being cool and chic at the same time.

What is your favourite piece within this collection and why?

The rings, because the more you stack them, the more you can play with the different combinations. Aside from anything else, it feels great to have a collection of them on your fingers…

What kind of look would you pair with this collection?

Well, the great thing about this collection is that the very minimalism of its design makes it work with just about everything. So you can dress for the day or the evening and simply keep the same jewellery on throughout – or else adjust it by adding a piece or two for the evening.

What do you think of sustainable fashion?

I think it’s a great thing that we are becoming increasingly aware of our responsibilities with regard to the impact we have on Earth. We have the opportunity to change the bad habits we’ve developed, and see what we can do to improve things in the future–enabling a decent quality of life for those who work in the different sectors of the fashion industry would be a great step forward.

We could also develop new means of production to reduce impact on the environment, and place greater emphasis on recycling systems for example. With its Journey to Sustainable Luxury, Chopard serves as a pioneer in the watch and jewellery industry, making a real impact on the supply chain with the ethical Fairmined gold they use in some of their collections, such as Ice Cube Pure.

But at the end of the day, this is not simply about fashion but applies to all humankind. I do feel, however, that fashion has this great ability to be an active part of the change and to set a very positive example. Fashion probably has one of the most powerful communication networks, so if this industry becomes involved it will definitely have a significant influence on global production and consumption. I am aware that this may have a certain economic impact but this has to be weighed up against the more important issues – namely the very survival of life on earth – that are already at stake.

Cool as Ice

Chopard presents the new Ice Cube Pure—a must-have for the minimalist!

Six facets, twelve ridges, eight peaks. The cube spells minimalist geometric perfection. Sharp, clean, more rock than romance, mid-way between urban chic and modern glamour, Ice Cube makes light of genres and conventions… Cool to the point of being glacial? Because it can!

1999 and the design of this geometrical figure inspires Chopard to create a powerful, avant-garde collection inspired by ice cubes. Frosty watches or chilled jewellery models, Ice Cube’s trendy looks have it all.

Ice Cube Pure. Same spirit, different time… and collection. Smaller cubes, polished or diamond-set, lined up in tightly packed rows. Rings, earrings, necklaces… not to mention bracelets for the hippest wrists – or ankles. On their own or part of a crowd? The ultimate fashion accessories can be worn solo or stacked up with others in a glorious combo of yellow, white and rose gold. Brilliant sparkle, fresh appeal, multiple facets… A powerful sense of self. Like the woman who wears them. Can’t live without it!

Because sustainable luxury is a priority
today, Chopard’s choice of ethical ‘Fairmined’ certified gold for this collection is the way to go. It’s a symbol of being truly 21st century. A label that guarantees respect for the mining community and the environment, used in High Jewellery since 2013 for the Green Carpet collection and in Haute Horlogerie for L.U.C watches. Making Ice Cube Pure part of this process shows Chopard’s determination to extend the choice of ethical gold to all its products over time. Whatever it takes. You can’t get cooler than that.
