Bahrain: Consultations from public opened for Draft Executive Orders

Bahrain’s Personal Data Protection Authority has opened consultations for a second time prior to issuing the final version. Feedback and comments will be accepted on the Draft Executive Orders from all sectors and entities until December 13.

Fruitful feedback and comments have already been received from individuals, national and international entities, via e-mail and virtual meetings. This was taken into consideration when amending the Draft Executive Orders to balance between the Data Subjects rights and the ease of implementation of the Personal Data Protection Law and its Executive Regulations.

The Authority said it seeks further comments on the latest amendments of the draft Executive Orders, namely:

  • Draft Order regarding the conditions to be met in the technical and organizational measures that guarantee protection;
  • Draft Order with respect to states, countries and territories with adequate legislative and regulatory protection for personal data;
  • Draft Order regarding The Data Subject’s Rights;
  • Draft Order regarding the conditions to be met while creating registers accessible to the public;
  • Draft Order regarding rules and procedures for processing sensitive personal data;
  • Draft Order regarding rules and procedures for submitting notifications and prior authorization requests;
  • Draft Order regarding the conditions and safeguards to be adhered to for protecting data related to instituting and pursuing of criminal proceedings and related judgements;
  • Draft Order regarding the duties of the Data Protection Guardian;
  • Draft Order with respect to rules and procedures governing submission of complaints relating to personal data protection
