Saudi Arabia denies rumours of giving cash gifts to COVID-19 patients

The Ministry of Health in the Asir region denied rumors regarding the distribution of money as part of a kit being provided by the ministry to people who leave quarantine facilities.

Yesterday, a video emerged showing a man emptying out a Ministry of Health-labeled bag and unpacking a box where he pretends to find SR1,500 in addition to flowers, hand sanitisers and chocolate. The video has gone viral on social media prompting Asir region health authorities to respond and deny the video.

It reacted to the video on its social media platforms saying: “With reference to video footages showing a person taking out a sum of money from a bag bearing Asir health directorate logo in a manner that suggests that the amount is given as part of the bag, Asir health authorities confirm that this is not true, and the amount may belong to the person who is taking the footage and we urge people to refrain from circulating rumours and take information from official sources only”.
