Saudi Arabia records 1,244 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths

New COVID-19 cases in Saudi Arabia surged past the 1,200-mark once again on Monday, with 1,244 new infections recorded over the past 24 hours.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, 16 more people died due to complications caused by the virus.

This brings the total number of confirmed infections in the Kingdom to 502,439 and the virus-related fatalities to 7,992.

The ministry also said that a total of 1,523 people recovered over the past 24 hours, raising the total number of people free from the deadly virus to 483,937.

The Riyadh region reported the highest number of new cases with 344, followed by the Eastern region with 254, the Makkah region with 200, and the Asir region with 125 infections.

The remaining cases were detected in other regions of the Kingdom with just one of them reporting less than 10 infections.

According to the ministry, there were 10,510 active cases and 1,434 of them were in critical condition.

The health ministry also announced that more than 20 million doses of the coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine have been administered through 587 designated vaccine centers across Saudi Arabia.
