Saudi Arabia Arrests 488 Persons Trying To Cross Borders

Around 16,288 violators of residency, labour laws and border security regulations were arrested in various regions of the Kingdom within a week.

According to the Ministry of Interior, the arrests were made during the joint field campaigns carried out by various units of the security forces across the Kingdom during the week from Jan. 26 to Feb 1.

The arrests included 9,343 violators of the residency system, 4,107 violators of the border security rules, and 2,838 violators of labour laws.

Another 488 persons were arrested while trying to cross the border into the Kingdom, 63% were Yemenis, 30% Ethiopians, and 7% of other nationalities, with 17 violators being caught trying to cross the border to exit Saudi Arabia.

Nineteen persons, who were involved in transporting and harbouring violators of residency and work regulations and practised cover-up activities, were arrested.

A total of 24,246 violators are currently subjected to procedures for violating regulations, of which 22,131 are men and 2,115 are women.

Of the 16,624 violators who were referred to their diplomatic missions to obtain travel documents, 1,754 violators were referred to complete their travel reservations, and 11,552 violators were deported.
