Saudi: Chicken, potato top list of 128 goods hit by price rise

There has been an increase in the prices of 128 goods and services, and a decrease in the prices of 35 other goods and services during the last month of September. Chicken and potato were on top of the list of 128 goods hit by price rise while cardamom ranked first among the goods that witnessed a decrease in prices. This was revealed by the General Authority for Statistics (GASTAT).

The authority’s data shed light on the average prices of goods and services in the Saudi market, and these included a total of 169 goods and services that came under 10 groups.

In the food and beverage section, which includes 92 commodities, the local medium potato was the most expensive commodity during the month of September, with a price rise rate of 65.95 percent, followed by local frozen chicken with an increase of 36.22 percent. American cardamom remained at the bottom of goods with a price decrease of 20.10 percent during the period, followed by Indian cardamom with a decrease of 15.68 percent.

In the construction goods section, which included 38 commodities, the data showed an increase in the prices of 27 items, and a decrease in the price of 11 other commodities during the month of September, compared to the same period in 2021.

In the fodder and live animal section, which included 13 commodities, there has been a price rise of 10 types of fodder and live animals, while the price of one type of fodder and live animals decreased in September compared to the same period in 2021.

In the clothing section, which includes 10 commodities, the prices of all commodities increased during the month of September. In the miscellaneous personal goods and services section, the data indicated an increase in the prices of all miscellaneous personal goods and services.
