The Saudi Arabian authorities are set to deport 135 Bangladeshis detained at Dammam for changing employers without permission. “The detained workers are awaiting deportation now,” Faisal Ahmed, an official of the Bangladesh embassy working on Dammam said on Wednesday.
“They are working as suppliers in several different companies without permission, which is a punishable offence under Saudi laws. The workers and the employer can face fines of up to 50,000 Riyal for this,” he said.
He added that foreign workers need the permission of his or her previous employer in case of changing jobs. Saudi authorities conduct drives against foreign workers who illegally stay in the country after performing Haj.
