Saudi Arabia is set to open a recently introduced e-visa system to general visitors, according to reports.

The kingdom first announced the online visa process in September but it was initially restricted to entry around specific events.

After a successful test for last weekend’s ABB FIA Formula E Championship outside Riyadh, the system is now being expanded to include the nationals of some countries.

UAE state news agency WAM said the kingdom would soon expand the system to enable travel for passport holders from the United States, all Schengen (EU) countries, Australia, Japan, South Korea, South Africa, Brunei, Malaysia and Singapore.

More countries will be added at a later date, it reported.

The price for a 14-day visa for the Formula E event was SAR640 ($170.65). It allowed access from any port of entry.
