Saudi: Over 150 businesses shut down for violating health protocols

Saudi Arabian authorities have shut down 152 businesses in the Eastern Region for violating measures put in place to stem the spread of coronavirus, local media reported.

Inspectors detected 1,351 violations of preventive measures in the past two days, while the offending facilities varied between cafes, restaurants, shops and outlets, due to their non-compliance with the coronavirus protocols.

Businesses failing to apply precautionary measures face fines of SR10,000). The penalty doubles and the business forced to close if the violation iss repeated.

A fine of SR5,000 is imposed on customers and employees if they exceed the maximum number of people permitted in a company.

Citizens, private companies or their employees could be fined between SR1,000 and SR100,000 and jailed for between one month and a year for violating measures, according to a royal decree.

An expatriate offender would be deported and barred from re-entering the country.
