Saudi reports 1,122 new cases in last 24 hours

The Kingdom reported 1,122 cases during the last 24 hours increasing the overall figure to 10,484.

Six new deaths were recorded since Sunday, bringing the total number of virus-related fatalities in the Kingdom to 103. The six deaths are all non-citizens and include five people who lived in Makkah and one person who lived in Jeddah, Ministry of Health spokesman Dr. Muhammad Al-Abdel Ali was quoted by Saudi Press Agency (SPA) as telling a regular press briefing.

The dead were between the ages of 23 to 70 years and most of them suffered from chronic illnesses he added.

The holy city of Makkah recorded the highest number of cases (402), followed by 200 in Riyadh, 186 in Jeddah, 120 in Madinah, 78 in Dammam, 63 in Hufof, 39 in Jubail and 16 in Taif. There were five cases in Al-Khobar, three each in Buraidah and Najran, and one each in Al-Madda, Yanbu, Zulfi and Diriyah.

Medical teams have been conducting mass coronavirus screenings in neighborhoods across the Kingdom since Friday to ensure that cases are detected early.

“Instead of waiting for someone to tell us that they have been infected and having to isolate all those who had direct contact with them, we go to the neighborhoods that we feel might have a lot of cases. We go to homes, we go to residential complexes so we can discover the cases before they come to us,” Al-Rabiah said in a televised address.
