The absence of driving schools for women in some cities or the delay in setting a date for them to come for lessons obliged some of them to give in to enticing offers from expatriate instructors.

According to the Arabic daily Makkah on Sunday, the absence of driving schools in Madinah has obliged a number of Saudi women in the city to accept offers from expatriate women to teach them driving for a fee of SR30 an hour.

The expat instructors placed advertisements on social media offering to teach Saudi women how to drive. The ads soon became viral on the Internet. The instructors said if Saudi women wished to pay monthly, the training will cost them SR1,500.

An expatriate woman trainer said she has a driving license that she had obtained abroad and substituted with a Saudi one. “I teach Saudi women driving for SR1,500 a month or SR30 an hour,” she said.

Another expatriate instructor said she knows driving but does not have a Saudi driving license. “However, I teach Saudi women driving for SR150 a day,” she added.

The driving schools will accept Saudi women for the training that is required to qualify them for obtaining a driving license if they know the basics and have a driving license from any country even if it is expired. They should have at least secondary school education and should be between 22-40 years of age and have no criminal records.
