The New Horizon School opened in 2000 as a kindergarten catering to value based schooling for children in the age group 3 to 6. In 2003, the institution expanded its services to educate children from 3 to 12, obtaining the official approval of the Ministry of Education with the new name, the New Horizon School.

What is the range of your virtual classes / learning?

Two classes per day, five days a week, from Sunday to Thursday.

What are the facilities available in your school? Please distinguish between Ministry mandated facilities and extra facilities.

Do you offer any scholarships or student discounts? If yes, please elaborate.

BD 15 concession is being offered to Teachers’ children. Two students were sponsored by the Management who left Bahrain recently. The New Management with Mr. Varghese Kurian as Chairman will be sponsoring a few needy students.

What coronavirus (COVID-19) initiatives have you implemented?

NHS utilised the global pandemic of COVID-19 situation as a moment to educate and rebuild the teaching and learning strategies at the New Horizon School to meet the changing needs of stuents. We have insisted on the Health and safety measures advised by the Ministry of Health on COVID – 19.

  • As a precautionary measure the New Horizon School Campus – Jannusan was disinfected completely by an outsourced company to assure our employee’s health and safety.
  • No visitors were entertained inside the campuses without wearing masks, gloves, and sanitizers as it was made a mandatory measure to overcome the situation. 
  • Thermal Check Points were setup before entering the premises.
  • Any Queries, Academics & Payments were carried out electronically to ensure prevention and protection of students and educators during the pandemic.
  • For Distance Learning we have introduced the School Portal to upload the documents after Zoom Classes (Live Teaching). Each teacher sets up WhatsApp Group with their class parents to clear doubts, portal issues and so on.
  • We have introduced SADAD & Online Payment to help parents during this crisis.
  • Work from Home for teachers emphasizes healthy teaching and learning.
  • The Parents were provided with an E-learning Handbook in the 1st week of April with all the instructions & guidelines to be followed during the online classes and the operating of the School portal.

How can parents ensure that their children are safe in school? 

  • Temperature checks of all students and staff on arrival
  • Sanitizer dispensers and tissue boxes are kept in each classroom.
  • It is mandatory for students over age 6 and staff to wear the face mask at all times inside the school and denied entry for non -compliance.
  • Awareness is given on the proper use and care of masks.
  • Sharing of food will be strictly avoided.
  • Face shield screen activity was conducted by the science teachers to give students further insight into the pandemic and safety measures.
  • A staff nurse will be stationed during the school hours.
  • Limiting gatherings and suspending group activities, such as School assemblies, trips, camps, sports and games.
  • Parents will be informed to monitor the health of their children and inform the school if they encounter any Covid-positive cases.
  • A decision on students with underlying health conditions will be taken on a case-by-case basis.
  • Modifying the working day, including staggered mealtimes, to avoid high concentrations of students in one place.
  • Sterilizing the school building, classrooms, laboratories and other facilities regularly
  • Ensuring that the support and maintenance service staff don’t enter the school when students and staff are present.
  • HSE team will be appointed to monitor the daily safety measures.
  • Operating School buses with reduced capacity, with temperature taken prior to boarding.
  • Only one parent or guardian will be permitted to drop off and pick up their children. They will be allowed to stay in the designated area for a maximum of 10 minutes but cannot enter the school.
  • Desks will be placed away from each other and students will not change classrooms between the lessons. Instead it’s the teachers who will move around throughout the day, to avoid overcrowding in the hallways.
  • Sports classes will focus on exercise that doesn’t involve physical interaction, which masks will not need to be worn for. Outdoor spaces are encouraged for education and exercises.
