Bahrain’s speed limits will be readjusted on 29 main roads to better cope with traffic flow. His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, who chaired the session, had given directives to reconsider the cap on speed, heed traffic safety and reduce violations.
The Premier also gave directives to intensify awareness-raising traffic campaigns to ensure commitment to rules, noting that the ultimate goal is to avoid wrong traffic habits and not to impose fines and contraventions.
The Premier’s directives came as a relief to a wide segment of society who complained about the sudden increase in traffic fines, with some considering them as a new method of taxation. Among their complaints was the sudden change of speed limit on roads, creating a confusion among drivers and costing them big amounts in over-speeding fines.
