Excellence in Education Leadership 2024 – a series where we shine a spotlight on the heads of schools and universities in Bahrain. We uncover the ideas, aspirations, and strategies driving these leaders to shape the future of education – whether it’s their vision for their institutions, their insights on the transformative role of technology and AI in education, or the innovations they employ to foster enriching learning experiences for children.
In this exclusive interview, we speak with Dr. Abdulla Al Sada, the General Manager of S Eleven Educational about the opportunities being unlocked with the introduction of the University of Strathclyde in Bahrain.
What in your opinion is the key to providing enriching learning experiences to students?
For university students, it’s important to help them acquire the latest skills, knowledge, and competencies to be able to thrive in the labour market. Strong instruction from industry experts, key staff members, and professors helps build this foundation. Our programs also emphasize building strong industry connections. Students not only learn on campus but gain practical experience through internships and industry visits. Professionals from various fields visit our students to share their insights directly with them.
Providing advanced technology and infrastructure that help students connect seamlessly to a variety of seminars and talks is another cornerstone to ensuring quality education. Our state-of-the-art technology connects students directly to our main campus and accommodates up to 1,000 participants. We aspire to leverage this technology to reach a wider audience.
What are some of the educational innovations implemented at your university that promote quality education?
The university serves as a vibrant hub for technology and innovation. During my time at Strathclyde, I observed firsthand how key ideas and research concepts were transformed into tangible products and spin-off companies. In Glasgow, the university is home to numerous research centres and affiliated companies that stem from these innovative ideas.
What’s particularly remarkable about the university is its ability to support both students and professionals. Individuals can study and simultaneously develop their business ideas, with the university providing incubation support. This is a hallmark of leading universities globally, fostering an environment where academic research and entrepreneurial ventures thrive together.
Technology and AI are changing the world. How are they changing education?
In my opinion, AI is a powerful tool and an invaluable asset that we need to leverage effectively. To make the most of it, we must focus on how learning occurs both in the classroom and on campus. Strathclyde excels in preparing students not only for the present but also for the future. This forward-thinking approach sets it apart from other institutions.
At Strathclyde, the emphasis is on teaching students how to learn and adapt continuously. The goal is to equip learners with the skills to navigate and thrive in an ever-evolving landscape, which is crucial for their long-term success.
What was the best thing that happened to you when you were a student?
The relationship you build with mentors at Strathclyde is truly invaluable. It’s a genuine mentor-learner dynamic, where they share their extensive knowledge and life experiences with you. Their commitment to your development is sincere, and many of us maintain contact with our supervisors long after our studies have ended. I still keep in touch with my supervisors and enjoy reconnecting with them when I visit Strathclyde.
Additionally, the friendships you form with fellow students during your studies can lead to a powerful network. The value of this network is immense. The trust and relationships you build make it easy to reach out for advice or support. Many business opportunities and collaborations stem from these connections, highlighting the long-term benefits of the relationships fostered during your time at university.
Why should parents choose to enrol their child in your University?
We’re not just bringing course materials; we’re bringing the entire Strathclyde campus experience to Bahrain. This means that staff from Strathclyde will be delivering courses here, providing not only their expertise but the full educational experience. This includes strong industry connections and a focus on teaching students how to learn effectively. Our goal is to deliver this comprehensive approach here in Bahrain.
Additionally, students will benefit from Strathclyde’s extensive network. They will have access to alumni connections in Bahrain, which adds significant value for both students and their families. What sets us apart is the ability for students to seamlessly transition from our Bahrain campus to the main campus in the UK. They can start their studies here and, after one or two years, continue at the main campus without losing any academic progress. This continuity ensures a smooth transition and a consistent educational experience.
