Bahrain: AUBH, Mumtalakat form partnership to empower students

The American University of Bahrain (AUBH) and Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to build the employment-readiness of the University’s students through joint initiatives that will equip the students with valuable market and business skills, knowledge, and practical experience. This agreement will enable AUBH to provide its students with a holistic educational experience, which is in line with the University’s educational philosophy and it will equip AUBH graduates with skills needed for today’s job market.

AUBH launches 1st Innovative Learning & Teaching Conference 2021

The American University of Bahrain will launch an “Innovative Learning and Teaching Conference 2021: Lessons from COVID-19” from May 24 – 26 at its Riffa campus. The international AUBH Innovative Learning and Teaching Conference: Lessons from COVID-19 (AEL 2021) will bring together thought leaders, top educators, and technology experts from around the region to the Kingdom of Bahrain, hosting 12 speakers, 16 sessions, and 2 workshops. The conference is set to explore emerging technologies in the educational sector as well as bring rich content that will serve the global and Middle Eastern educational community. The main aim of AEL 2021 is to bring together scholars, researchers, educators, students, professionals, and individuals interested in education and EdTech to present their works on the current developments in educational sciences. The 3-day event will provide an opportunity for academicians and professionals from various educational fields to share their theoretical knowledge, research findings, and educational practices with their colleagues and the academic community. With a hybrid modality, speakers will host the event on campus with our attendees joining through virtual technology. Some of our speakers include: Dr. Susan E. Learn how AUBH diversifies its academic porfolio

Gulf Insiders talks to Dr. Susan E. Saxton, Founding President of the American University of Bahrain. What’s new at AUBH? We are so excited to welcome 2021 with new degrees, new students and new partnerships! It is an exciting time at AUBH. Not only were we able to welcome students back on our beautiful campus last fall, thanks to our dual-modality learning experience and outdoor activities and events, but we also have three new undergraduate programs and three new graduate programs in the pipeline and under approval with HEC. Today, we are of course offering our learning experience online, in line with the Council for Higher Education’s directives until March 14th, however, hope to welcome our students back on campus as soon as it’s possible to do so. Adding to our list of recent accomplishments is that we are now welcoming international students from fourteen different countries, adding to our already diverse student body. AUBH is receiving a growing number of transfer students who wish to continue an American-style education in the GCC. In general, the AUBH quality of American-style education mirrors that of the best universities in the United States, and we are the first of our kind in the Kingdom. The evolving role of technology in education

What is the scope for digital transformation in education and what are the risks associated with it? The scope for digital transformation in education is as wide or narrow as institutions want to make it. AUBH came into existence at the peak of digital transformation in the region, facilitating our ability to become a leader in the field. As a start-up institution, we are inherently dynamic and we had invested heavily in technology from the beginning. We believe in the power of digital education to reach students in a profound and engaging way, enhancing their education through greater access to learning materials, instructors, and other students. As a result, our entire campus and our teaching models have been specifically developed to use the most advanced educational technology available. Leading towards a lifetime of success

Gulf Insider interviews Dr. Susan E. Saxton, Founding President of the American University of Bahrain. When did you realize the pandemic was about to impact your day-to-day life and work? What immediate actions did you take and how ready was AUBH to adopt these actions? COVID-19 has changed the way that institutions globally deliver education,and the way that students approach their futures. As soon as we saw the pandemic take hold in Europe, we pro-actively mobilized our technological tools to be ready to move to an online modality. AUBH, as an institution, is in a fortunate position due to the structure of our business as a start-up, which means that we are naturally able to adapt and change very quickly. We moved to distance learning seamlessly, without missing any class time. I’m pleased that all of us, including staff, students, and support teams, have demonstrated the ability and desire to adapt and try new teaching and learning methodologies. We added measures to assist students who have had to return from studying abroad, who may not have access to all the necessary documents due to exam disruption.
