Twitter To Remove Inactive Accounts, Confirms Elon Musk

CEO Elon Musk has announced that Twitter will remove all accounts that have been inactive for several years. In a tweet on Monday, Musk said that the action is “important to free up abandoned handles.”

The social media platform’s inactive account policy states: “We encourage people to actively log in and use Twitter when they register an account. To keep your account active, be sure to log in at least every 30 days. Accounts may be permanently removed due to prolonged inactivity.”

In his tweet, Musk said accounts with “no activity at all for several years” would be purged, but in his replies later to a question posted by a user who urged that historic tweets and contents should not be deleted, he added that “the accounts will be archived”.

Musk warned that the action would result in follower counts dropping for many accounts, but did not provide any details on when the process will begin.
