Felicity Lyons, the Lady Mayorees of London, recently embarked on a knowledge-enriching journey at the Bahrain Institute for Pearls and Gemstones (DANAT).

The Lady Mayorees delved into the rich cultural and historical significance of the pearl and gemstone industry in Bahrain.

Notably, DANAT stands as the world’s premier pearl testing laboratory, a leading global research hub, and a pioneering educational institution in the region.

Noora Jamsheer, DANAT CEO, provided an insightful overview of DANAT’s pivotal role in showcasing Bahrain’s pearl heritage, which spans over five millennia.

Jamsheer underscored the deep-rooted connections between the Institute and the United Kingdom and highlighted significant collaborations, including the Institute’s agreement with Malca-Amit UK to launch a take-in window for pearl and gemstone services in Britain in addition to DANAT’s partnership with the Gem-A, the Gemmological Association of Great Britain.

She affirmed that the visit served as a testament to the enduring bond between Bahrain and the UK in the realm of pearls, gemstones, and diamonds.

The CEO guided the guest through an informative tour, providing detailed insights into the various departments, ongoing research initiatives, and specialised training programmes offered at the Institute. The educational programmes cater to individuals aspiring to specialise in the intricate realm of jewellery and gemstone testing. The training encompasses techniques for testing natural pearls, gemstones, and diamonds, equipping participants with essential skills.

The tour extended to the DANAT Laboratory, renowned for its expertise in examining pearls, gemstones, and diamonds. The Lady Mayorees of London had the opportunity to observe the advanced tools, equipment, and cutting-edge devices employed for precise examinations and property determinations of gemstones. Additionally, she gained valuable insights into the latest scientific research and innovations undertaken by DANAT’s team of experts.

“These prestigious visits provide invaluable opportunities for us to broaden our horizons and reinforce our standing as a premier institute in precious stone testing,” Jamsheer said.

“They underscore the profound understanding and keen interest of world leaders in recognising the significance of the gemstone sector, both economically and culturally,” she added.

“This is particularly noteworthy considering DANAT’s international collaborations with prestigious institutions and industry leaders. These partnerships position DANAT as a gateway to global markets, enabling us to cater to the needs of both local and international clients.”
