Meta Unveils Llama 2: Facebook-Owner’s Answer to ChatGPT and Google’s Bard

Meta and Microsoft have introduced Llama 2, announced on Tuesday, the open-source large language model is free for commercial use.

“By making AI models available openly, they can benefit everyone. Giving businesses, startups, entrepreneurs, and researchers access to tools developed at a scale that would be challenging to build themselves,” the Meta announcement read.

Llama is the acronym for Large Language Model Meta AI developed by the longstanding partnership between both companies that “extends outside of AI and into the metaverse too.”

The announcement explained that the open source “approach promotes transparency and access.” Llama will be optimised to run locally on Windows allowing developers to integrate the AI experience into applications.

Bard, last week, launched in Arabic with 16 dialects. Recognising the intricacies of the language, Google ensured that Bard can understand 16 distinct colloquial dialects, including Egyptian, Emirati, and Saudi Arabic.
