UAE: 10 arrested for phone fraud

The Sharjah Police in cooperation with the Dubai Police arrested a gang of 10 expats for phone fraud.

The suspects posed as bank officials and sent texts or called residents informing them that they needed to renew their bank details. Once the victims revealed their data, the suspects would drain their accounts.

One suspect was able to draw Dh32,000 from a victim’s account.

The police seized a large number of phones and SIM cards as well as receipts of cash transfers.

The suspects have been referred to the public prosecution after reportedly admitting to committing the fraud.
