Bahraini athlete, Winfred Yavi, added a new title to her achievement-laden sports career when she won the women’s 3000m steeplechase at the Zürich Diamond League, the 11th leg of the Diamond League 2023 season.
Yavi won the race a few days after her success in bagging a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship which concluded in Budapest recently.
Bahrain’s world champion finished the race in 9:03.19, ahead of Keya’s Beatrice Chepkoech and Faith Cherotich, who clocked 9:03.70 and 9:07.59, respectively.
Sprinter Winfred Yavi is following in the footsteps of Bahraini Ruth Jebet, who won the Diamond League title in the women’s 3000m steeplechase in 2019.
Winfred Yavi’s outstanding recent results reflect her full readiness to participate in the 19th Asian Games, which will be hosted by the Chinese city of Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province from September 23 to October 8, 2023, and the 2024 Olympic Games (Paris 2024).
