Oman: Infant tests positive for Covid-19, put on ventilator

A three-month-old infant in Oman has been put on ventilator support due to Covid-19 at the Sultan Qaboos University Hospital.

Dr. Badr Nasser al Ghailani, Head of the Intensive Care Department, said in an interview with Oman TV that they have received children infected with Covid-19 earlier, but this case is considered the ‘first’ as the child is not receiving enough oxygen despite mechanical ventilation.

They attempted to wean the child off ventilation, however, she is unable to breathe on her own, he said.

Dr. Saif bin Musabah, a Senior Consultant at SQUH, added that the occupancy rate in the ICU is almost at 100%, and some patients had to be transferred to other hospitals due to shortage of ventilators.
