Saudi: Over 550 shops shut down for violating health protocols

The Saudi Ministry of Municipal, Rural Affairs and Housing has closed 550 establishments in the Kingdom that violated precautionary health measures to limit the spread of coronavirus.

The ministry said that field teams in various regions and governorates of the Kingdom carried out 14,589 inspection of shops, food establishments and public utility markets on Saturday.

Inspections resulted in the detection of 2,960 violations by the ministry and public health authorities as part of the Kingdom’s anti-coronavirus efforts.

The ministry said municipalities shut 550 establishments, and issued penalties.

It stressed the importance of following preventive measures, placing stickers on floors to promote social distancing, providing sterilizers and temperature measuring devices at entrances of commercial establishments, and using the “Tawakkalna” application.

The ministry said it was important to serve penalties against violators to preserve public health and safety, adding that cooperation by commercial establishments in following preventive measures was necessary, too.

It urged citizens and residents to report health violations by contacting the Municipal Reports Center on 940.
