WhatsApp launches ‘Message Yourself’ tool

There’s nothing more annoying than heading to the supermarket only to find that you’ve forgotten your list.

But the days of having to rack your brain to recall which items you need could be a thing of the past, thanks to WhatsApp’s latest feature.

The messaging app has launched a new tool called ‘Message Yourself’, which, as the name suggests, lets you send yourself notes, reminders and updates.

This feature will be available on Android and iPhone and will be rolled out to all users in the coming weeks.

The ‘Message Yourself’ tool lets you start a 1:1 chat with yourself within the WhatsApp app.

It will help users to keep track of their to-do lists, send themselves notes, reminders or shopping lists, according to WhatsApp.

To use the tool, simply open WhatsApp and create a new chat by tapping on the icon in the top right corner of the screen.

You’ll now see your own contact at the top of the list, above your phone contacts.

Simply click on your number and start messaging.

Several WhatsApp users have taken to Twitter discuss the new feature.

One user tweeted: ‘This is a must have feature’, while another wrote: ‘Finally I don’t need a dedicated notes app anymore on my phone!’

However, others explained how they have been messaging themselves on WhatsApp for years thanks to a sneaky workaround.

‘All I did was I created a group with someone then kicked them, it’s easy,’ one explained.

Another wrote: ‘I have a group with myself (created with a friend who then left) to send my stuff on the go that I want to check later.’

The new feature comes shortly after WhatsApp launched a new tool called Communities, which lets you message multiple groups at once.

The tool allows wsers to place several group chats together under one topic and share updates with them all.

Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, WhatsApp’s parent company, said: ‘Today we’re launching Communities on WhatsApp.

‘It makes groups better by enabling sub-groups, multiple threads, announcement channels, and more.’
