A number of UAE flights were either suspended or rerouted amid the unrest in the region.
Dubai-based carrier flydubai’s flights to Jordan, Iran, Iraq and Israel were cancelled on Saturday and some flights were diverted, an airline spokesperson confirmed to sources.
This comes after Israel said it struck military sites in Iran early Saturday in retaliation for Tehran’s attacks on Israel earlier this month.
In a statement, flydubai spokesperson said: “We will continue to closely monitor the situation in the region and amend our flight schedule accordingly.”
Customers have been advised to contact the flydubai contact centre in Dubai at (+971) 600 54 44 45, the flydubai travel shop, or their respective travel agents for rebooking or refund options.
Abu Dhabi-based Etihad Airways is also rerouting a number of its flights on Saturday “in response to airspace restrictions in parts of the Middle East.”
“This is likely to cause some disruption and delay to a number of flights over the next 48 hours,” an airline spokesperson told Khaleej Times, adding: “Safety is always our highest priority, and we would never operate a flight unless it was safe to do so.”
Customers are urged to check the status of their flight on etihad.com. “This is a developing situation, and the airline is continuously monitoring security and airspace updates,” added the spokesperson.
Passengers who want to change their travel arrangements can reach Etihad Airways contact centre on (+971) 600 555 666, or their travel agents.
Meanwhile, Emirates announced that flights to/from Baghdad and Iran (Tehran) are cancelled until October 30. Customers transiting through Dubai on Emirates with final destinations in Baghdad and Tehran will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until October 30.
Emirates’ flights to/from Beirut remain cancelled until October 31, and passengers transiting through Dubai with final destination to Beirut will not be accepted for travel at their point of origin until further notice.
