Saudi: Study to Evaluate Retention of Expat Fees

The Shoura Council on Monday called on the Ministry of Commerce to coordinate with the relevant authorities to carry out a study about the possibility of retaining the fee for expatriates and their dependents at the level of 2019 for the fiscal year of 2020.

The Council also urged to study the effectiveness and efficiency of implementing the law to combat commercial fraud and developing the law in a way that ensures raising its standard and achieving the goals.

A few weeks ago, the Council members called for carrying out studies on the negative effects of imposing fees on foreign workers on various social and economic realms.

They also underlined the need for raising the minimum scale of salaries to attract more Saudis to the employment sector as part of the measures to address the unemployment problem.

The Council asked the ministry to study, in cooperation with the relevant authorities, about the existing challenges of special-purpose firms in the event of the sponsoring company becoming bankrupt.

The Council also called on the ministry to study the causes of corporate bankruptcy and the subsequent exit of companies from the market while proposing to set the necessary controls to curb it.

The Council also called for strengthening the role of consumers in monitoring through the use of modern technical applications on various enterprises and commercial activities.
