UAE Reiterates Face Masks Are Not for Healthy Individuals

Wearing face masks is only essential for people suffering from chronic diseases and those with flu symptoms, the UAE Ministry of Interior has said.

The ministry reiterated guidelines from the World Health Organisation (WHO) following requests from members of the public and stressed they are not required for all segments of society.

While protecting yourself from coronavirus is key to helping slow its spread, the WHO says they are not recommended for healthy members of the general public.

They are, however, essential for people who are suspected or confirmed of having Covid-19 or looking after someone who is unwell, that includes frontline health workers.

The ministry has also stressed the importance of adhering to all precautionary measures and continuing to follow updates from the country’s official sources.

There are currently 248 confirmed cases of coronavirus across the UAE, with two reported deaths so far.
