The UAE summer has officially started and temperatures have hit a year-high of 49.9 degrees.
The highest temperature of the year, so far, was recorded at Mezaira in Abu Dhabi on Friday, June 21. At 3.15pm temperatures were recorded at 49.9 degrees.
High temperatures are being recorded across the country, with the National Centre of Meteorology saying the coolest temperature felt anywhere in the country was recorded at Raknah in Abu Dhabi at 6am. It was still 23.1 degrees.
UAE summer heat
High temperatures were recorded in various locations, with the top five hottest areas recorded at weather stations on Friday, June 21 were:
- Mezaira: 49.9 degrees at 3.15pm
- Um Azimul: 49.8 degrees at 12.45pm
- Hamim: 49.9 degrees at 3.15pm
- Al Jazeera BG: 48.6 degrees at 3.45pm
- Gasyoura: 48.5 degrees at 2.45pm
It comes as the UAE summer season has officially begun, with the nation marking its summer solstice this year on June 20, marking the longest day.
In an X post, the Emirates Astronomical Society revealed that the solstice occurred at June 20 at 20:51 GMT, the earliest since 1796 for most world regions.
