UAE Issues 125 Fines for Breaking Egg and Chicken Price Rules

UAE’s Supreme Committee for Consumer Protection has issued 125 fines to outlets and cooperative societies that were found to be in violation of the controlled eggs and poultry prices in the country.

Earlier this year, the UAE Ministry of Economy approved price increases for eggs and poultry and inspections were carried out to monitor prices and enable good business practices for market stability.

It was announced that the move achieved 95 per cent compliance with the pricing rate of raw eggs and poultry. Those in violation were fined between the beginning of April 2023 and the end of July 2023.

The decision was made after retail companies requested that prices of eggs and poultry go up due to the high cost of production and international shipping of eggs.

The price of eggs is controlled in the Emirates and suppliers need approval from the ministry before making changes. Prices are set to be reviewed in six months, retailers in the UAE were legally allowed to increase the cost of eggs and poultry by up to 13 per cent.
