UK: Govt Considered Killing Pet Cats To Curb COVID-19 Spread

Ministers briefly considered ordering all domestic cats in Britain to be killed amid fears they could be spreading Covid, a former health minister has said. The concern about pets underlined how little was known about the disease at the outbreak of the pandemic in 2020.

It comes after The Daily Telegraph published details from over 100,000 leaked WhatsApp messages between ministers, officials and scientists throughout the pandemic. The former Health Minister revealed that there was an idea to ask the public to exterminate all the cats in Britain.

Due to the reveal, officials are furious that this distorted account of the pandemic is being pushed with partial leaks, spun to fit an anti-lockdown agenda, which would have cost hundreds of thousands of lives if followed. But the messages do show that a lot of people worked hard to save lives. The full documents have already all been made available to the inquiry, which is the proper place for an objective assessment, so true lessons can be learned.
