UTB introduces new courses to stay current with global trends

University of Technology Bahrain (UTB), is one of the largest private universities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, offering programmes in engineering, information technology and business, which are on par with the best universities worldwide.

UTB has gained international recognition and accreditations through its commitment to excellence as it ensures that students exhibit their capabilities and demonstrate resilience and adaptability in the increasingly globalised environment.

The College of Administrative and Financial Sciences includes business programmes like Bachelor of Science in Business Informatics, Bachelor of Science in International Business, and Master of Business Administration. All these programmes have received full accreditation status from the European Council for Business Education (ECBE), an international organisation which ensures that UTB satisfies the requirements of the European Higher Education set out in the Bologna Process and other European standards.

The College of Computer Studies offers Bachelor of Science in Computer Science programme, which is accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) and Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC).

Under the College of Engineering are programmes like Bachelor of Science in Informatics Engineering and Bachelor of Science in Mechatronics Engineering. These programmes are also accredited by ABET’s Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC).

Considering the evolving global economy that is dependent on various factors, UTB adds relevant programmes to its list of programmes, namely Bachelor of Science in Environmental Engineering, Bachelor of Science in Accounting and Finance, Bachelor of Science in Information Technology in three (3) majors – Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence, Networking and Cybersecurity, and Applications Development, and International Foundation Year (IFY) programme in collaboration with Northern Consortium of United Kingdom (NCUK).

Students are also provided with various co-curricular and extracurricular activities for an enriched learning experience and personal and professional development, while driving innovation and promoting social responsibility.

In terms of physical prowess, they constantly kick off great plays in the annual edition of Sports Tournament for Universities. Academically, they have consecutively scored in the local, regional, and international competitions organised by different applied science-driven organisations such as GCC Robotics Challenge, World Robot Olympiad (WRO) and Huawei ICT Competition. Some of their recent student achievements are:

  • Third in the 6th IET GCC Robotics Challenge 2022 after besting competing university teams from Bahrain and other universities from UAE, Kuwait, KSA and Oman
  • Won the “Best Financial Performance” award in the TradeQuest 2021-2022, a six-month long program organised by Bahrain Bourse
  • First in the Huawei’s Seeds for the Future Program 2020, Bahrain
  • First in the World Robot Olympiad (WRO) 2019, Bahrain, and represented the country in the WRO International Final Round at Győr, Hungary, Europe
  • First in the 4th IET GCC Robotics 2019, Bahrain, and won “Design Excellence” award in the regional round in Canadian University, Dubai, UAE
  • Third in the global round of Huawei ICT Competition 2019 in Shenzhen, China

The university is currently undergoing a transformation from its primordial setting to a university of technology that will upgrade its position as one of the main providers of technology and business programmes. The development plans which are currently being executed include total renovation of its campus spreading over more than 53,000 square meters, IT systems, academic programmes including at least 5 new programmes, sports facilities, staffing, and other key areas of the university operations.

Hence, through the collaborative efforts of all stakeholders, UTB is ready to respond to new opportunities, expand developments and confront global challenges with a strengthened identity and a firm commitment to its vision, mission, and values.
