Kuwait: Parents’ sponsorship subject to humanitarian considerations

Sponsorship of parents in Kuwait is subject to humanitarian considerations and decisions are taken by the assistant undersecretary for residency affairs, Major General Anwar Al Barjas, on a case-by-case basis, a security source said.

The source told Al Qabas: “All transactions are studied separately, and are decided according to several considerations, including the profession and the salary in the work permit. Humanitarian cases, such as the death of a parent, the absence of a breadwinner for the other in home country, will take priority.”

The source added that approving the transfer of parents’ residency to the sponsorship of their children takes place in the narrowest limits, regardless of the nationality of the applicants, pointing out that all residents who have valid residency in the country are decided equally.

The source indicated that the six nationalities banned from entering into the country for several years, except with the approval of the Minister of Interior or the Undersecretary, namely Bangladeshi, Afghan, Iraqi, Iranian, Syrian and Yemeni, who have valid residency visas, are treated like other nationalities, and their applications are considered. The ban applies only to those coming to the country for the first time, not to those already present.
