A fire broke out in a factory making wooden boxes at Jebel area area on Friday, an official said. The blaze in a plastics recycling plant in the port area took hold of much of the building, according to images from the scene.
Witnesses reported seeing plumes of smoke rising from the area starting at around 9am. They said that some of the gates to the free zone were closed as a precaution.
Firefighters were still at the scene after the blaze broke out at a recycling factory in Jebel Ali, according to a tweet by the Dubai Media Office.
Dramatic footages show thick smoke pouring into the sky.
In a separate tweet, the Dubai Civil Defense confirmed a fire was reported at 9:21 a.m., engulfing a factory that produces cardboard and processes timber.
No casualties were reported in the incident.
Firefighters from Jebel Ali, Dubai Investments Park and Dubai Parks were deployed.
