Bahrain: Two-Month Ban On Kingfish Fishing, Selling Announced
A seasonal two-month ban on fishing kingfish has been announced between August 15 and October 15 where fishermen are not allowed to catch or sell kingfish.
“The ban on fishing and sale for kingfish will take effect from tomorrow August 15th, this was officially announced by the Agriculture and Marine Resources Agency at the Ministry of Works, Municipalities Affairs and Urban Planning.
The agency explained that the decision came with the aim of increasing the fish stocks within the total fish stock in the Kingdom, regulating the fishing process and to achieve a balance within marine life. The agency stressed that all necessary measures would be taken to implement the ban.
The Agriculture and Marine Resources Agency noted that the decision prohibits the display and circulation of kingfish, during the period of effect of the ban, in public places for the purpose of marketing or selling, and anyone who violates the provisions of this decision will be punished with the penalties stipulated in Decree-Law No. (20) of 2002 regarding the regulation of fishing, exploitation and protection of marine wealth.
It stated that banning fishing during the fish breeding season is one of the best scientific methods for preserving fish stocks and ensuring the continuity of marine life. The agency also called on all fishermen to cooperate with the competent administration to implement this decision in order to preserve marine wealth.
