Oman: Muscat Governorate to Levy Hefty Fines on Unattended Vehicles

Owners of unattended cars and other vehicles parked on streets for long periods will face a fine ranging from OMR200 to OMR1,000 and then their vehicles will be impounded, an official at the Muscat Municipality said.

A fine of OMR5 per day will be levied if the owners do not collect the vehicle from the impounded site. Municipal officials said a warning notice sticker shall be placed on abandoned vehicles after close monitoring. If no action has been taken within the grace period for 14 days, the vehicle will then be towed away.

The crackdown on vehicles abandoned in car parks, outside villas and elsewhere has been launched recently.

The municipality cracked down on unattended vehicles as part of its efforts to keep the city clean, improve its appearance, improve safety and security and reduce pollution.

The municipality also revealed that it had begun its campaign with 66 vehicles being towed away and a total of 167 warning stickers slapped on the vehicles in various wilayats of Muscat Governorate for abandoning vehicles in public areas.
